OMG I'M FINALLY FINISHED WHY DID THIS TAKE SO LONG?!

At long last, my submission for is finished!! I have no idea how long I'm going to last in this contest, but I'm sure as heck gonna try my best. There are an awful lot of artists that are better than me, though. >.>

EDIT: Changing the types and amounts of items before the deadline. Also fixed a couple of movesets.

All righty, let's get to business, shall we? (Warning: LARGE AMOUNTS of text on the horizon...)

Kes hails from the lovely city of Fortree, Hoenn, where her parents are the entrepeneurs of a thriving Pokemon mail-delivery service. Kes was always an energetic, spirited child, and even though she loved Fortree (who wouldn't?), she's always had a huge streak of wanderlust and dreamed of seeing the rest of the world. She is easy-going and friendly, quick to laugh and quick to make friends. She does have a stubborn streak, however, and a hot temper that is apt to flare up when something upsets her. Excitable and impatient, Kes usually doesn't spend much time in any one place before the urge to travel hits her again.

One night when Kes was about six or so, a fierce storm from across the sea blew over northern Hoenn, hitting Fortree dead-on (almost knocking over a few of its famed trees). During the next few days, reports of sightings of exotic Pokemon, mostly Hoppips and a few flying and bug types, broke out all over the area. Kes's father, on one of his delivery runs, discovered a small, disoriented Pokemon that he later identified as a Hoothoot north of the city. Knowing that Kes had been wanting a Pokemon of her own for some time, he gave it to her as a birthday gift when it was fully healed. Kes, of course, was delighted, and she and the Hoothoot (whom she named Artryx) soon became fast friends, with the two of them spending their time flitting through the treetops. In time, the Hoothoot grew stronger, and Kes began to construct brilliant plans for their future of adventure and excitement. Kes liked to pull out her parents' old maps, and she and Artryx would often mark all of the places that they wanted to see together someday. Kes promised Artryx that they would one day cross the sea to see the place where he had come from.

On the day the Hoothoot finally evolved, Kes decided that it was time for her adventure to begin. Though she was about thirteen at the time, a bit old for most beginning trainers, she registered as a trainer and made plans to leave on her grand quest. Her parents disapproved of her choice at first, thinking that she should just stay at home and carry on the family business, but Kes was adamant. She had decided long ago that she would begin her own business as a traveling courier carrying letters between cities during her travels, and, hearing this, her parents reluctantly assented.

Thus began Kes's epic adventure of AWESOME (as she often called it). She and Artryx flew all over Hoenn, battling and meeting new friends along the way (and beating up the occasional Team -insert name here- Grunt), until she turned her eyes to the horizon over the sea, and so she came to Johto and Kanto. While there, Kes (who was about seventeen at the time) decided she would take on the Pokemon League challenge. She gathered the gym badges, and then finally took on the Elite Four to try to become the next Champion. She ultimately failed, but then astonished her parents by deciding to keep training and traveling. Kes, looking over her old maps, decided there were places that she still needed to see. She was last seen traveling around the remote parts of Sinnoh, with the ever-faithful Artryx by her side.

Golden Noctowl pin: given to Kes by her parents before she left, it's her most treasured possession (worn on coat)

Kes's oldest and best friend, Artryx would do anything for her, and she for him. Though he started out as a rather small Hoothoot, he grew to be unusually large for a Noctowl (Kes believes it's because he was raised in the lush environment of Hoenn). Because of this, Artie is Kes's main form of transportation, and they spend much of their time zooming through the skies delivering letters. They know each other so well that Kes can practically hear what Artie's thinking, and they act almost like close siblings at times. Wears a soothe bell around his ankle 'cause he likes the jingling sound. xD

Kes met this little spitfire rather early in her adventures. While traveling through the desert in Route 111, a nasty sandstorm whipped up, and Kes would have been lost for good if she hadn't tripped over an oddly-colored Trapinch who led her to a safe rock crevice away from the wind. After the sandstorm blew over, Kes asked the Trapinch if it would like to travel with her, and, after hearing about Kes's grand plans, it agreed. Since Kes found her in a sandstorm, she named her Nausicaa, after the Greek goddess of the wind. Nausicaa is bold and quick-tempered, and not afraid to show whatever she's feeling at the moment. She was a little jealous of Artryx's bond with Kes at first, but she and the Noctowl eventually became friends, and the two share an easy rivalry with one another.

Kes caught Pan literally by accident. Stopping to rest during a hike through Petalburg Woods, Kes set her bag down against some bushes and settled down for a nap. Out of nowhere, a Shroomish appeared and began to rummage in the bag, knocking it over and spilling out its contents. Before Kes could shoo it away, it touched the button on one of her Pokeballs and ended up getting itself caught. After seeing how taken with her the Shroomish was, Kes couldn't bring herself to turn him loose, so she kept him. True to his name, Pan is the team practical-joker, and his antics often get him into trouble (Kes has had to save him several times from being torched by an annoyed Aethon or Nausicaa). Though not very intelligent, he is as faithful as can be, and never hesitates to cheer Kes up if he thinks she needs it.

Kes, having grown up in the treetops, has always felt more comfortable in the air than anywhere else. She never learned to swim. Consequently, when she and Artryx flew over the ocean for the first time, she was rather terrified. However, when she happened to catch a Seel at one of the Seafoam Islands, she decided that maybe the water isn't all that bad. Selkie, named after the legendary seal-folk of the British Isles, is the serene, gentle, mothering figure of the group. Her comforting presence is one that the others often cling to for support during tough times. Selkie is always there to soothe ruffled tempers, wipe away tears, or just give a nice hug.

Aethon. Oh, Aethon. "Serious" doesn't quite describe this fellow. To Aethon, being a trainer's Pokemon is SERIOUS BUSINESS, and that he and the others in the team must act accordingly at all times. He is gallant to a fault, and he occasionally serves as Kes's "noble steed" (as she often teasingly calls him) when flying is not practical. He has a good heart, but he sometimes loses patience with the other members of the team (especially Pan). He loves his trainer more than anything, and would defend her to the death if necessary. Kes has pretty much taken it upon herself to get him to lighten up a bit sometimes.

Zeus is the most recent addition to Kes's team. He's a bit...odd...sometimes. Kes is pretty sure that he's a kleptomaniac (she finds strange objects in her bag occasionally). Zeus is a bit shy around other people (especially considering that he's a bit on the pudgy side), but he's really just a cuddlebug. He likes to sleep curled up next to Kes at night.
